Member of Knesset Orit Struk (Jewish Home-New National Religious Party) was informed this week that Commander Nitzan Alon of the Israel Defense Forces' [IDF] Central District signed an order bringing into effect a law she sponsored to give equal rights to women who work in Judea and Samaria (Shomron).
MK Struk said her reaction was mixed, explaining, "On the one hand this is welcome progress - my bill , the public debate it created and the ultimatum set by the prime minister followed put an end to the ongoing contempt of the [IDF's] Civil Administration in Judea and Samaria for the civil rights of the residents of Judea and Samaria."
On the other hand, she continued, "The prime minister did not reject "with both hands" the baseless claims of the attorney general, who demanded that the legislation be carried out by a military order instead of a normative Israeli law. For me the process is over but not done with. I'll continue to work for equal rights for residents of Judea and Samaria. After 45 years, it is time that life here will be normal and equal."
