The penalty phase of the trial against Rabbi Mordechai Elon opened, Thursday morning at the Jerusalem Magistrates Court. Jerusalem District Attorney Sagi Ophir said the state's position is that Rabbi Elon should serve eight to 18 months behind bars on two convictions for indecent assault.
Channel 10 Television reported, Wednesday, that the prosecution was undecided whether to seek jail time or community service. The report said that the rabbi was sent, following his conviction, to a center to determine how dangerous he was. The threat level was determined to be low to medium, and the report said Rabbi Elon should not be left alone with potential victims.
