Former Member of Knesset Rabbi Chaim Amsallem filed a complaint with the police alleging that members of the Shas party were threatening him. He claimed the threats stem from the recent passing of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, considered a spiritual leader and personal mentor for the party's leadership. Rabbi Yosef's funeral was the largest ever in the modern state of Israel.
Amsallem broke off from Shas in the middle of the last term and formed his own rival political party. He unsuccessfully ran for Knesset with his new party in February.
