Minister of Defense Moshe Yaalon met today (Monday) in New York with Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-Moon, where he stressed “The goal must be to prevent Iran from having nuclear weapons.”
“We appreciate the U.N.’s efforts in our region, particularly in regards to Syria and the dismantling of its chemical weapons stockpiles,” said Yaalon. “Assad realized that in order to survive this he had to give in on this issue. But we must wait and see the results and then determine if he is hiding anything,” he continued.
"We do not oppose a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear issue, but the goal should be clear: Iran must not have nuclear weapons. Right now we are seeing Rouhani’s charming side, as directed by Khameini, and the easing of sanctions (with Iran) will only obstruct our achieving this goal,” Yaalon stated.
