Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said, Sunday evening, that the roots of the Arab-Israeli conflict must be understood in order to find a solution. He asked those in attendance at Bar-Ilan University, "Is Israel's takeover of 'the territories,' the areas of Judea and Samaria (Shomron), what sustains the conflict? Really?"
He responded, "If I have to pick a date on which it started, in real terms, I would pick this date in 1921, the date on which Palestinian Arabs attacked the Immigrants House (Beit Ha'olim in Hebrew) in Yafo [Jaffa]. The attack was directed against Jewish immigration, not about territories, not about settlements but about Jewish immigration to the land of Israel." He stressed that "The question is not the Palestinian state but Jewish state. We left Gaza, we uprooted communities and the attack on us continues."
