Professor Israel Gutman, a prominent figure among historians in the study of the Holocaust, will be laid to rest Wednesday afternoon in the Givat Shaul cemetery in Jerusalem at 3pm. The 90-year-old Auschwitz survivor, participated in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943 and later founded the Research Institute of Yad Vashem. In 1961, he testified at the trial of Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann in Jerusalem. Until his passing, he served as Academic Advisor to Yad Vashem and vice chairman of the International Auschwitz Council. He was awarded the Yitzhak Sadeh Prize for Military Studies.
