State Department: Rouhani's Election 'an Opportunity'

The U.S. State Department, in response to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s speech at the United Nations, said on Tuesday that the election of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani provided “a new opportunity.”

“We will see if they backup their words with actions, and time will tell,” said State Department Spokeswoman Jen Psaki. When asked about Netanyahu’s remarks that Israel would go at it alone should Iran come closer to acquiring nuclear weapons, she replied, “I think no one wants to see Iran acquire a nuclear weapon, and obviously, he was speaking to what steps the Israelis are willing to take, which they have spoken to before.”
