News from the Arava: 20% Increase in Date Yield

The yield from this year’s date crop in the Arava is expected to come to about 7,500 tons – an increase of 20% over last year’s harvest.  However, water consumption decreased by 20%, according to a study. The date harvest is underway in the Arava through mid-October. According to Boaz Horowitz, Chairman of the Arava's Research and Development , said that in the central and northern part of the Arava the crop is likely to yield approximately 7,500 tons of dates, which include approximately 800 tons of organic dates.
