The Israeli branches of computer giant Intel and Micron Technologies announced, Monday, that Intel is taking back the Fab 18 production facility in Kiryat Gat, which it had leased to Micron, and offering jobs to the 800 Micron employees of the facility. Intel will continue to produce NOR flash memories for Micron after the deal is finished.
Micron decided to close its Israeli production facility about a year ago, ignoring the local branch's request to move to other areas, such as production for firms that did not have their own facilities. Micron did not succeed in selling the facility. The return of the facility to Intel was an option in the lease contract, and Intel sees the plant as important in its future plans in Israel.
