Secular and religious Jews danced together, Thursday evening, during hakafot shniyot processions and dancing with Torah scrolls in the Samarian (Shomron) communities of Alei Zahav, Nofim, Peduel, Shaarei Tikva and Tzofim. According to Samaria Regional Council statistics, 55 percent of the region's population does not cover its head while 45 percent is religious.
Acting Samaria Regional Council chairman Yossi Dagan said, "In recent years, a demographic revolution has slowly emerged in Samaria." He continued, "A revolution that is positive in that proves that Samaria has become a place that can be home to every Jew and that we succeeded in reaching the hearts of all the population. A man doesn't have to wear a yarmulke to view Samaria as home." Noting that the region leads the country in growth rate, Dagan said, "We will continue, together, to build schools, parks, new neighborhoods and, with G-d's help, new communities this year."
