Ali Mohamed Dirie, convicted in 2006 as a member of the "Toronto 18" plot to attack a number of Canadian institutions, has died while fighting in Syria. A Thursday report by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation cited a member of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service who said a relative recently announced Dirie's death at a Toronto mosque without giving details of when and how he died.
Shalom Toronto reports that Dirie left Canada on a forged passport and joined a rebel group aligned with Al-Qaeda. He is not the first Canadian to die in Syria. A number of Canadians have been killed as members of terror groups around the world in the last year.
