Firefighters and volunteers from the Ichud Hatzalah emergency service in the predominantly hareidi-religious city of Bnei Brak, east of Tel Aviv, responded to five fires during the Shemini Atzeret/Simhat Torah holiday. There were no physical casualties in any of the blazes.
A number of people had to be rescued, Wednesday evening, after they were trapped in a residential building on Ezra Street and were evacuated until firefighters brought a blaze in the building under control. An hour later, fires broke out in apartments on Damesek Eliezer and Hoshea Streets. Thursday morning, a fire broke out in a fourth-storey apartment on Maimon Street, next to the Alexander Yeshiva. In the afternoon, there was a fire in an apartment on Tzfat Street.
