Following extensive consultations this morning by members of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef's medical team at Hadassa-Ein Kerem, a decision was reached to not implant a permanent pacemaker into the Rav, but to exchange it for another temporary one.
The hospital announced this morning (Wednesday) that the procedure had taken place in the hospital's Cardiology Department. Afterwards Rabbi Yosef was returned to the ICU for continued care. The Rav's attending medical team is continuing to cope with his weakend and failing bodily systems.
The Rav is in serious but stable condition. He is in an induced sleep and on a respirator.
