A senior officer the Rabbinical Corps of the Israel Defense Forces said, Friday, that the military rabbinate was satisfied with this week's one-year extension to Lieutenant-General Benny Gantz's term as IDF Chief of Staff. The officer said there were no embarrassing incidents that led to an explosion in relations, which he described as excellent.
The officer recalled the removal of candidates from an officers' course after they walked out on a singing performance by female soldiers. Chief IDF Rabbi Rafi Peretz agreed with Gantz in that case. Regarding the changing of the wording of the Yizkor memorial prayer for military observances, Rabbi Peretz and other rabbis presented Judaism's position in a way that allowed Gantz to make the changes in a comfortable and agreeable way.
