Writer Mira Avrech was laid to rest on Wednesday at Kibbutz Einat. She was 88 years old. Avrech was a long-time journalist with a popular newspaper column in Yedioth Achronoth in addition to authoring several books. Her most well-known was Paula a biography of the wife of Israel's first Prime Minster David Ben-Gurion. Avrech was born in Germany and escaped the Holocaust when she moving to the land of Israel in 1933. She joined the Irgun Zvai Leumi, or ETZEL, an underground militia led by Menachem Begin. Her activities in that period included participating in the liberation of Jaffa in 1948. She began her column in the 1950s and went on to meet numerous Israeli leaders and Jewish personalities over the years.
