New unconfirmed reports indicate that a rebel group that believes in radical Islam has been destroying marijuana crops in the region of the city of Aleppo in northern Syria. They have set up courts under Shaira law, an Islamic code of conduct enforced by their own police officers. Video clips from Aleppo show police destroying a field of cannabis plants armed with both light field weapons and a heavy machine gun mounted on a truck. Children are depicted harvesting the crop. Cannabis can be used to create hemp rope and cloth but is most notably used to create illegal drugs such as marijuana and hashish cigarettes. Such drugs have allegedly been sold by Hezbollah and other terrorist groups to fund their activities.
