Over the intermediate days of Sukkot (Hol Hamoed) the world’s largest date will be displayed at President Shimon Peres’ “Open Sukka”. The date, of the Anbara variety, can grow to be 8-10 cm. (3-4 inche) in size.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will be participating in the President’s “Open Sukkah” for the fourth year in a row. The Sukkah will be open to the general public for the entire Hol Hamoed, and the date will be on display.
The Anbara date is amongst the biggest in the world and is grown here in the agricultural research and development facility of “Eden Farm”, located in the Emek Hamaayanot. The Anbara date was planted in this country about seven years ago, and is just now yielding its first fruit.
Dates are considered Nature’s sweet, yet healthy, candy.
