Chief of Staff Benny Gantz of the Israel Defense Forces participated, Thursday evening in a memorial to the patroopers who fell during the Yom Kippur War. Addressing those in attendance in the Bilu area near Rehovot, the lieutenant-general said, "Forty years ago, during the Yom Kippur War, paratroopers commanders called 'Follow me' at the scene led forces to the fighting theaters of the "Chinese Farm", crossing the [Suez] Canal and the peak of the Hermon, outposts and trenches, and all the fighting fronts. From their places at the front of the force, they well understood the situation and were smart enought to be able to prepare and act accordingly."
Gantz continued, "Paratroop family, it's the third time I am here as chief of staff. I know this place well. Commanders and subordinates names are carved in stone, those who were my friends and comrades in arms for years, deeply engraved on my heart. Like you, I carry them wherever I go, from my days as a fighter and commander of the division to this day. "
