Minister of Tourism, Dr. Uzi Landau released a reassuring statement today (Tuesday) saying that Israel is still considered a desirable and safe tourist destination. "Since the beginning of the year, we have witnessed record numbers of incoming tourists. Israel remains a safe destination for tourists from around the world and for domestic tourism. The Tourism Ministry will continue to work with all its power to strengthen - in the current period and beyond," he said.
According to the Bureau of Statistics, there was a slight drop in August 2013’s numbers compared to the previous year of about 5%. However, it was noted that the decrease in August 2013 may be attributed to the decrease in day visitors crossing from Sinai into Israel because of the instability in Egypt.
