Member of Knesset Tzipi Hotovely (Likud Beyteinu) participated, Monday, in a memorial observance to mark a year since the passing of Rabbi Hanan Porat, who served in the Knesset from 1981 until 1999. She said, "During the period between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, a time of introspection, a man of such stature as Rabbi Hanan Porat is sorely lacking in the Israeli leadership."
Hotovely continued, "Hanan Porat was a man of truth, whose behavior was based on Torah values. I had the privilege to study with Hanan during his last year and learn from him what is proper, civilized leadership. Engraved on his tombstone are the words of Herzl's book Altneuland: 'His soul would bring about his dream.' We must continue to fulfill his great dreams."
