Rift with National Religious and Hareidi Overshadows Us

Chabad spokesman Rabbi Menachem Brod, said that in light of the rifts between the national religious and hareidi communities, it is difficult to give an optimistic forecast for the coming year.  “There is very serious bitterness and disappointment in the Hareidi community that has led to anger and even slander, and I do not see any easy way to mend these fences,” he said.

Rabbi Brod said he could see that much of the progress in work that has been made over many years has collapsed, all within the period of a few months.  “The last two decades has been a gradual but positive process – not just in the political arena, but also in everyday life.  People got closer, and sat together at Torah events, as well as at other occasions. It is now as if everything suddenly exploded with an indescribable intensity.  Today there are deep and very harsh feelings of bitterness, disappointment and pain.  I admit, I do not see how this can be mended,” he added.
