Record Natural-Gas Use

Israel crossed the threshhold of 1.5 million cubic meters of natural gas consumed during peak hours last Tuesday and Wednesday, according to figures released, Monday by the Energy and Water Ministry. The daily use reached 30 million cubic meters, replacing 25 tons of expensive and polluting petroleum distillates such as oil, diesel and liquid petroleum gas.

Energy and Water Minister Silvan Shalom said, "The ministry continues to promote the use of natural gas which will eventually influence the lowering of prices for electricity, water, gas and other products. This is a great contribution by the office to the fight against the high cost of living."
