6,000 Israelis Returned during the Jewish Year

More than 6,000 Israelis returned to live in Israel, according to statistics released on Sunday by the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption, which combined with nearly 17,000 new immigrants for a total of 23,000 recorded by the ministry. The largest combined group of new and returning Israelis was more than 7,600 from eastern Europe.

In a statement ahead of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, starting Wednesday evening, Absorption Minister Sofa Landver said the ministry wanted to increase the numbers in both categories.
