and The 33rd Annual Chabad Telethon took place this past Sunday, August 25th, in Los Angeles. The telethon raises funds for different Chabad-sponsored programming and charitable endeavors. This year's event brought in $3 million.
Rabbi Shalom Cunin, nephew of Rabbi Boruch Shlomo Cunin, director of Chabad’s West Coast operations, said that he thought the economic difficulties at this time are partially to blame for Chabad’s raising fewer funds this year (last year's event brought in $4 million).
Rabbi Cunin was also reported to have said that people were worried about their finances today, and that, “A lot of people who gave us donations in the past are coming to us for help.”
This year's event was co-hosted by Larry King. There were also appearances by Elliott Gould, Jon Voight, television actress Leslie Grossman several Los Angeles elected officials.
