Payments to PA Terrorists Problematic to Norway

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide agreed with Deputy Foreign Minister Ze'ev Elkin, Monday evening, that there is a problem that a relatively high percentage of the Palestinian Authority budget goes to fund the salaries of PA terrorists who are held in Israeli jails. Meeting in Jerusalem, ahead of next month's meeting of nations who donate to the PA, headed by Norway, Elkin noted the problematic educational message to the authority's young generation, which understands that it pays to become a terrorist, who makes four times as much as a PA security man.

Elkin also expressed the public's concern about the authority's ability or willingness to hold up any terms of an agreement with Israel, given the PA's violation of a clause in the Oslo accords that it would not take unilateral action toward statehood.
