Report: Israel Pessimistic about Ties with Turkey

The political leadership in Jerusalem does not believe that it will be possible to improve relations with the government of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, according to a Monday-morning report by the Yisrael Hayom daily.

The newspaper reported that there has been no agreement in negotiations on compromise diplomatic language and compensation to relatives of those killed on the Mavi Marmara, after they attacked Israeli commandos who boarded the Turkish ship to divert it from its attempt to break the naval blockade of Gaza in 2010. Diplomatic sources made it clear that compromise was possible on the amount of compensation, but the root of the problem was the Turkish demand to call the compensation "punitive damages" instead.
