The Welfare Ministry's "Open Your Heart and Home" project got under way on Friday. As part of the project, families will host lone Holocaust survivors during the upcoming Rosh Hashanah Jewish New Year. Families that want to host or survivors who want to be hosted can dial 118 and a representative of the ministry will handle their request.
Welfare Minister Meir Cohen said, "We are occupied, these days, with creating reform in the treatment of Holocaust survivors, extensive reform which is, in my eyes an amendment of the State of Israel since its inception. We chose to get the public involved in this project and create an atmosphere of solidarity, giving and opening the heart for the good of Holocaust survivors."
