Chief Rabbis Promote Polio Vaccine, Allay Fears

The two Chief Rabbis of Israel, Rabbi David Lau and Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef call for the public to obtain the polio vaccine. They tried to ally fears that vaccines could do more harm then good in a special announcement.

"After a comprehensive investigation with professional bodies in the Health Ministry, we have clarified that there is no room for fear when it comes to immunization against polio. There is however, great reason to fear harm to oneself and to others from not becoming immunized."

The wild strain of polio has been discovered in the south, possibly brought over from beyond the southern border. The new Two Drops program is being instituted across the country for all children born after 2004.

"It is the obligation of each and every person to vaccinate their family in accordance with the Health Ministry," the chief rabbis said in a statement,
