Samantha Powers, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. was expected by many to be a weak player in putting forth traditional U.S. values at the U.N. But she seems to have shaken up the status quo, as reported by the Washington Times.
Having already accused the U.N. of being “entrenched in its own bureaucracy”, she is now speaking up against the election of Dr. Jean Ziegler, as the Swiss representative on the U.N.’s Human Rights Council.
“Dr. Ziegler is unfit for continued service”, wrote Powers. She also pointed out that the 79-yr.-old Ziegler has praised Castro, Hussein, and Qadaffi, while at the same time accusing Israel of human rights abuses.
