The Health Ministry announced, Sunday, that it destroyed more than 1.7 metric tons (almost 3,900 pounds) of meat and poultry last week, following inspections of the Yeinot Bitan (Pavillion Wines) butcher shop in Netanya and the Yisrael Feldman Limited factory in Lod. During the inspection, meat products were found that had been produced under poor sanitary conditions and without a manufacturer's license or proper documentation and marking. Almost 100 kilograms/220 pounds of meat were destroyed at Yeinot Bitan with 1,669 kilograms/3,680 pounds destroyed at Yisrael Feldman Ltd.
The ministry reminds the public that the processing, storage and marketing of meat products can be dangerous to the public health. The ministry said its enforcement program will continue, including legal steps against food companies in violation.
