Thousands are attending the 26th annual Tzfat Klezmer Festival. The event lasts from August 6th - August 8th in various historic locations throughout the city. The northern city of Tzfat, also referred to as Safed, was home to many of the forefathers of the Kabbalah. The culture of the local community, with its mix of Jewish residents from around the world, contributed to the development of klezmer music.
This year performances are featuring both traditional Jewish ethnic music as well as more modern styles. Well-known performers include brothers Yonatan and Aharon Razel, Eyal Shiluah, celebrated clarinetist Moshe "Musa" Berlin, local Breslov band Simply Tzfat, American-Israeli guitar virtuoso Rebbe Soul, and the new Chassidic YouTube rap sensation Ari Lesser.
