Defense Minister Moshe (Bougie) Ya'alon today (Wednesday) visited the IDF Negev relocation project. The tour included the Ackerstein Factories, the training center which he visited together with the Prime Minister, the ICT campus, and a meeting with mayors from the South to discuss the project’s developments.
In his opening remarks, Ya'alon said, “Mr. Prime Minister, you have come here to see a vision come to life. This is the vision that was laid out by David Ben-Gurion.”
Israel's first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion laid plans to develop the Negev and showed an example by moving to Kibbutz Sde Boker in the region when he retired. His home can be visited there.
Ya'alon also commented that the needs of the IDF will give a huge boost to the Negev – not only for the Ministry of Defense, and that the IDF’s presence will provide an increase in infrastructure, as well as better security.
