State: Petition against Frenkel Appointment Premature

The government responded, Sunday, to a Supreme Court petition against the appointment of Ya'akov Frenkel to a third term as governor of the Bank of Israel by calling the petition premature since Professor Frenkel's nomination has not yet been approved. The state said a number of the points in the petition are under the scrutiny of the Tuerkel Commission on senior civil-service appointments.

The state said the claim that a third term was illegal should also be rejected, based on a legal opinion by Deputy Attorney General Dana Silber.
