Complaint Against MK Porush on Handcuff Incident

Knesset Speaker Yoel-Yuli Edelstein lodged a complaint with the Knesset Ethics Committee, this week, against Member of Knesset Meir Porush (United Torah Judaism) over Porush's handcuffing himself to the speaker's podium during debate on the first reading of a bill to expand hareidi-religious participation in national service.

Edelstein said that through this act, "Member of Knesset Porush violated the rules of ethics and dealt serious injury to the honor of the Knesset." He noted that it took a long time for ushers and security to try and release the handcuffs, which was only accomplished by breaking down the microphone, a matter of financial damage, given the expensive and sensitive nature of the electronic equipment.
