Low-Income City of Lod Seeks Economic Revival

The city of Lod is one of Israel's oldest, being mentioned in the Tanach and being noted as a Jewish center during the time of the Maccabees. However today it is known for being a rather low-income city near the airport. However on Wednesday, top level business leaders met to discuss what they see as the huge potential for the city. Amikam Cohen, the CEO of Partner Communications, the parent company of the Orange cell phone network, spoke in Lod. Business leaders stated that the city of about 12 minutes from Tel Aviv's Azrieli Center about 5 minutes from Ben Gurion International Airport and about 2 minutes the Airport City industrial zone. They hope to revitalize the area with an infusion of economic prosperity with a nod to the city's rich history.
