Samarian 'Spy' Sentence Slashed by a Third

The Be'er Sheva' District Court accepted an appeal by the Honenu legal-aid organization and reduced by one third, Thursday, the three-month sentence of Akiva Hacohen from the Samarian (Shomron) Jewish community of Yitzhar, slightly more than a month after he entered prison on a conviction for collecting military information and passing it on in an attempt to prevent the expulsion of Jews from property in Samaria. Also sentenced to three months was Hacohen's friend Effi Haikin.

The appeal was submitted after the Prisons Service refused the pair's request to reduce their sentence. Haikin's appeal was voluntarily withdrawn after he refused to cooperate with the court.
