The Chief Rabbinate held a farewell party, Sunday, for Chief Rabbis Yona Metzger and Shlomo Amar, ahead of Wednesday's scheduled vote on new chief rabbis. They thanked the staff and expressed hope for worthy successors.
Rabbi Metzger noted that at the beginning of their term, the offices of the Rabbinate could hold all the candidates for rabbinical ordination exams. Now it takes the Binyanei Ha'uma Jerusalem Convention Center to accomodate the 6,000 candidates who are tested each year. Rabbi Amar cited the growth in kashrut enforcement and other departments.
