If They Knew I was Coming They Would have Stopped Me

Housing Minister Uri Ariel surprised police at the entrance to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem's Old City by showing up at the beginning of the week, according to a Friday-morning report by the Ma'ariv daily. The move outraged Public Security Minister Yitzchak Aharonovitch and the security department of the Prime Minister's Office because of the amount of security required for a ministerial visit. Those close to Ariel claimed that if he announced his intentions ahead of time, security and police would have torpedoed the visit.
