White House: Assad Can't Rule as he Once Did

White House Spokesman Jay Carney said, Thursday, that the rule of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad was essentially over. Speaking to reporters, Carney said, "Basically the dictator of Syria and the ruler, the iron-clad ruler of Syria, is over. And while there are shifts in momentum on the battlefield, Bashar Al-Assad, in our view, will never rule all of Syria again."

Regarding remarks by Chairman Martin Dempsey of the Joint Chiefs of Staff that the United States is considering a military option in Syria, Carney said that President Barack Obama always asks army commanders for options but has made it clear that there will be no American soldiers on Syrian soil.
