Likud Minister: PM Won't Make Far-Reaching Moves

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu does not intend to make far-reaching diplomatic moves opposite the Palestinian Authority (PA), according to a minister from Netanyahu's Likud party, cited Tuesday morning by Kol Yisrael government radio. The minister said Netanyahu's main purpose is to show willingness to negotiate and the refusal of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas to negotiate without preconditions will thwart attempts by Secretary of State John Kerry of the United States to resume direct negotiations.

The minister noted that Netanyahu does not have a chance to lead a diplomatic move that would include significant concessions to the PA and that estimates of a political explosion in the party are not based on reality. The minister said nobody in the Likud would go along with the prime minister on such a move, other than Minister Yuval Steinitz.
