Kerry to Meet Abbas Tuesday

Secretary of State John Kerry of the United States is expected to arrive in Jordan, Tuesday, for a meeting with Chairman Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Jordanian officials as part of his continuing effort to restart direct talks between the PA and Israel. The meeting is viewed in the U.S. as a sign of progress.

It is assumed that Kerry will come to Israel, Tuesday evening, after the end of the Tisha B'Av fast. The State Department has not given details of other meetings but Kerry will reportedly meet, Wednesday in Amman, with leaders of the Arab League to update them on the talks, as well as the crises in Syria and Egypt.
