Minister Silvan Shalom said, Monday, that Secretary of State John Kerry of the United States will be returning to Israel after the end of the Tisha B'Av fast, Tuesday evening as part of his continuing effort to resume talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA). Responding to a question during a meeting of the Knesset Finance Committee, Shalom said he was informed of Kerry's plan during a discussion with National Security Advisor Ya'akov Amidror.
Addressing the Finance Committee in his capacity as Energy Minister, Shalom noted that the PA's debt to the Israel Electric Company stood at more than 800 million shekels. He said the subject would be brought up in discussions with Kerry about economic outlays, adding, "We cannot live long with this debt. It looks like we'll have to make some tough decisions."
