Hotovely: More Sensors, Less Cellphone Use in Cars

Deputy Transportation Minister Tzipi Hotovely reacted to Sunday afternoon's death of a five-month-old who had been forgotten in a vehicle by saying, "The requirement of warning sensors in case someone is forgotten in a vehicle can save lives. At the same time, parents in general and drivers in particular must take this into account every time they have a [telephone] conversation while driving."

Referring also to a recent death of a nine-month-old under similar circumstances, Hotovely said, "Cellular telephone use while driving has been proven as a central cause of distraction on the highway. Mostly as a cause of accidents and occasionally as the cause of forgetting babies and shocking deaths, as we have seen, once again, since the start of the month."
