The Legal Aid department of the Justice Ministry joined a Tel-Aviv legal clinic in petitioning the Supreme Court, Friday, not to allow the national government's water and sewage authority or other water and sewage companies from cutting off the water supply to ten households under extreme financial hardship who cannot afford to pay their water bills. The petition claims that the providers are not authorized to use cutting off water as a means of applying pressure to pay.
One example among the ten petitioners is a single mother who lives on disability benefits with a son who has a chronic illness. She is disconnected from gas because of debt and has been disconnected from electicity for long periods of time. She also is unable to acquire the medicines she needs or food for proper nutrition.
