Prime Minister and Likud party Chairman Binyamin Netanyahu announced, Thursday afternoon, that he would not participate in the party's convention at the Tel Aviv Exhibition Grounds. He had been scheduled to address the gathering at 8:00 p.m.
Party sources said the surprise announcement came after the party court ruled that there would be no votes on substantive issues. Under the ruling, the election of members of the party's institutions will wait until after the local elections at the end of October. A convention delegate accused Netanyahu of being afraid to be photographed with party activists, explaining that a meeting with activists, earlier in the week, was closed to the media and even those in attendance were picked very carefully.
