Jerusalem Mayor Tied to 'Secular Yeshiva'

Mayor Nir Barkat of Jerusalem came out, Friday, against Thursday evening's decision by the city council against the establishment of a pre-military academy and "secular yeshiva" in the controversial Warburg compound, where plans for hareidi-religious institutions were cancelled four years ago.

Writing on his Facebook page, the mayor said that Thursday evening's decision was a warning sign against those who want what's best for all the citizens of the city. Stressing that it was not a battle between the secular and the hareidi communities, he noted that the final decision would be made by the regional planning council, adding that he was committed to the approval of the two institutions.
