Jewish Cemetery Desecrated near Kiev

Tombstones were desecrated, this week, in one of the two Jewish cemeteries in the Ukrainian city of Korostyshev (Karshev in Yiddish) west of the capital of Kiev. Rabbi Yisrael Meir Gabba of the Ohalei Tzadikim (Tents of the Righteous) organization, who has led efforts to revive the cemeteries in the wake of their treatment under Communist rule, appealed to law enforcement authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Korostyshev is a city of more than 26,000 people. Its Jewish population accounted for 8,000 of the 12,000 people who lived there before the Holocaust, when they were wiped out.
