Israeli Source: Talks Can Continue if Abbas Wants

The renewal of direct talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA) is not taking place because PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas is demanding three preconditions, according to a senior diplomatic source in Jerusalem, quoted Tuesday by the Yisrael Hayom daily. Those conditions are release of all murderous terrorists imprisoned in Israel who were tried before the signing of the Oslo Accords, a building freeze beyond the 1949 Armistice Line and a declaration that the negotiations are being renewed with the goal of establishing a Palestinian Authority state on the basis of the pre-Six Day War boundaries with an agreement for the exchange of territories.

A senior diplomatic source was quoted as saying, "The diplomatic negotiating can progress significantly within a few days, if Abu Mazen wants that."
