Unrefrigerated Meat Smuggled in from PA

Authorities detained the driver of a vehicle transporting approximately 1.5 tons of unrefrigerated meat on Wednesday The driver was transporting the meat from the Palestinian Authority assigned zones to be sold in the coastal region of Israel. According to preliminary investigation, authorities said that the driver used a commercial vehicle without refrigeration with conditions unsuitable for transporting meat. Minister of Agriculture Yair Shamir (Likud-Yisrael Beiteinu) stated, "the Ministry of Agriculture will fight the smuggling of food. Not only is it a potential danger to public health, it is also an economic crime."
