Hatnua Vetoes Amar Law

The Hatnua faction vetoed on Monday night the so-called "Amar Law", which is being promoted by the Bayit Yehudi party and which will allow Sephardic Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar to present his candidacy for a second tenure.

An official with Hatnua said the veto was imposed because the Amar Law is a personal law and also because the Bayit Yehudi had vetoed the “Stern Law”, which is being promoted by Hatnua and which seeks to enlarge the voting body that selects the chief rabbis. The official said that once Bayit Yehudi cancels its veto of the Stern Law, Hatnua will cancel its veto of the Amar Law.
